born on 24th April 1835 in Skibbereen, Ireland, as a son of William Richey and Anne Morgan. He died on 15th June 1918.  He married

on 23rd March 1861; they had 6 children, among them was

, Robin and Katya Müller's great- grandmother. Their youngest son

was a passionate painter.  Some of his paintings are preserved.

According to the dress historian

its date range  is "firmly c.1865-69, the years 1866-8 being the most likely". She adds that it "has all the hallmarks of an early wedding photograph. If not, then this is perhaps a 5th or 10th wedding anniversary photograph". All this taken into account, the conclusion might be that it was taken in

1866

when Anne Barber and Joseph Richey had their 5th wedding anniversary.
