The couple's elder son John Humphreys writes about their wedding:

"Mum and Dad met on a skiing holiday (February 1947?) and.were married on 30th April 1947. The wedding was held in London, as a central point that both families could reach relatively easily; Dad stayed in Chelsea for a few days necessary to establish residence in the area.

His god-daughter Linden commented that she attended 'the (rather grand) wedding reception'. She was only 15 at the time, and 'it was the first time I had seen a Toast Master other than in films'.

The honeymoon took them to Devon, where they called on his aunt T'Anne (born 1864) and her niece (Linden's grandmother) Rhoda Mary Watney (née Allport, born 1883). 'The old ladies were thrilled .... Granny told me afterwards that she had been sure a new bride would have had all the latest things, and so asked your mother if she could see her nylon stockings. Unfortunately even a new bride could not get nylons in those days. I think K was the only one at the wedding who had them, and they had been sent to her from Hollywood.' "
